when you are going to read aloud your students � names in a classroom, do you say for example "I �m going to call roll?

We call it attendance time - �it �s time for attendance, say present when I call your name... �

Let �s call the roll.
Let �s take the register. 
Let �s check to see who is here.
+
Remember to answer "I �m here"...

Growing up in the US it was "taking attendance"  "roll call" is also used quite often, but it kind of has a military feel to it.

We call it Attendance Register  or Class Roll.  It �s usually written on the front. 
 
I say it informally: "let �s check who is here today"
