Informally, your question is fine; however, if you want to be formal, you could say, "Which lesson are you studying?"

Totally agree with Carla, the best way to say it to learners is :
 
"which lesson are you studying?"
 
or
 
""What are you studying now?"

Unless it �s a teacher asking a teacher about a lesson they �re teaching...
 
then, it �s "What lesson are you on?" or "What unit are you teaching?" or "What lesson are you teaching?"
