I found the transcription and pronuciation of Corcovado, and, as I have already mentioned, I found the pronunciation of the word Ipanema. They are almost the same as the ones in the transcription Sulany given here. The only word which differs from the others is Rio de Janeiro: Portugese [ˈhiw dʒi ʒʌˈnejɾu] English [ �ɹioʊ deɪ ʒəˈnɛɹoʊ].
Of course, some English sounds are not the same as Portugese. But it is clear that we should pronounce English sounds and make stresses as the Brazilians do.
As to the Portugese words and the name, I think I �ll give my students the transcription which was given here. The words must sound very close to the Portugese because the author of the text I �ve taken the words from tried to give a special coloring to the text using these words. E. g. when a guide describes sights and tries to give the full information, he tries to pronounce foreign words and names close to the original and then gives the translation. I think this is the same situation.
