A dry wine: I �m not sure about this one
Clear soup: thick soup?
clever student:how can we say this and still sound nice!?? haha
tough meat: tender meat
rough sea: calm sea
salt water: fresh water
strong beer: mild beer

clever student: I would rather say "not very clever", if I had to...

As for the thick soup, I beleive it �s correct.

I �d say that clear soup doesn �t really have an opposite, but another alternative is cream soup.

Clear soup: thick soup - like pea soup is thick
clever student: A not so bright/clever student - a very polite way to say this
tough meat: tender meat
rough sea: calm sea
salt water: fresh water
strong beer: mild beer

Stupid student? I wouldn �t use that one either ... I, too would use "not very clever", the same way as I say "not very thin"

I also thought about rich soup.. but I guess the meaning is different!

A rich soup is different than a "thick" or "creamy" soup. Rich refers to flavour. A consomm� which is a "clear soup" can be rich, meaning it has a lot of flavour. And a cream(y) soup is also different, it is made with milk/cream and isn �t always "thick".

The opposite of a consomm� (clear soup or broth) is a thick soup like a stew or bisqu�... something that has substance to it.
