ESL teachers teaching overseas...

...typically do not have access to resources of their own. I have downloaded the ESL Printable toolbar(of which I am very suspect as toolbars from third parties ALWAYS track user data and contain cookies). I have given you my email address and registration information. I STILL cannot access the online resources??? You want me to design worksheets for you IN HOPE that someone else will use it and I will therefore earn 1 download? I realize that longtime users will be able to access things freely, but where is the incentive for a new user? You can t even throw in 20 free downloads for the obtrusive nature of your registration process?

I am not happy so far.

I can understand your frustration, but this really is a great website. The worksheets here are mostly really well made and people put time and effort into creating them. It wouldn t be fair for people to just join, get all this great work and then leave when their 20 free downloads were up. The incentive for new users is the same as it is for all members here. If you create quality worksheets your reward will be points to download worksheets of a similar standard. Why don t you spend the time to create one good presentation or worksheet. I can promise you that you will get your 20 downloads (if not more) if it is of a good standard.

Tonysmurf,

First, I would like to welcome you to the site, and say thank you for joining us! I hope you will find a great ESL family here.
I am sorry that you are feeling disappointed, but I must agree with barnhead, it just wouldn t be fair to all the other members if we started giving away their work. It took quite a bit of time and effort to earn all of my points and I would feel very unappreciated if someone were to get it for free.
That being said, I understand how frustrating starting out can be. But you shouldn t look at it as an obstacle; instead use it as an opportunity. Challenge yourself to produce some of the most dynamic and engaging worksheets ever made! I look forward to watching you realize your potential and amaze us with quality of your work! In the mean time, here are a few websites where you can find some useful resources...

Some of our members have their own websites. You should take a look and see if you can find anything you like.

Dear Tonysmurf I am sorry I first have to point out at a couple of things. First, it s not just being a long-time user that gives you the right to download stuff here. Of course it depends on what you exactly mean by long-time users. But I suppose it means someone who has uploaded enough stuff of their own and has accumulated points accordingly, let s say, 30 points that gives you the free access to the printables of the day. I can t see how this is free. Everyone has gone through of the process of creating their own work, uploading it, then waiting for how others respond to it. As a result, you get to use someone else s work in return if your work has been chosen by some or enough people. No one does judge which is a plain garbage - for this, FYI, the site has some specific rules well laid out - or a real good work. It all depends on what you are looking for and what your needs are for the class you are teaching. I assure you It doesnt take much to make a worksheet that might attract some other teachers attention. If you are willing to give it a shot, I could offer some tips for some other new users as well. Its my own opinion but from the experience of having used the site for a few months. -Make the sheet colorful and use attractive fonts. (Yes, the looks seems to be very important here) -Make the title clear and dont leave the description blank empty. A quick introduction to your work will help people decide if its what theyre looking for or it could be useful to them. -If you are using any pictures or clip arts, make sure the size of the file is big enough to be clear. -Dont make it too complicated. Its for the convenience of saving time and effort for the teachers after all. They wouldnt like to spend extra time to figure out the rules and the contents. -If its more than 1 page, make the first page attractive. If you have all the good stuff on the 2nd page, it wont show on the list so the chance is that it will be easily ignored when people go through the list only breezily. -Be practical. Not too many colors probably. Addition of B&W versions even better. Its to print out. Some people like me would also consider how much ink will be used for the printing. Well, I can go on and on about it but I dont even know yet if you will be coming around. So Ill leave it here today plus have a class to catch! Hope at least some of my comments has been helpful.

It is like any other system, tax, health etc....to benefit you need to contribute, and to be fair, you only have to do a few worksheets to start benefiting, then you are allowed some free downloads each day. It is well worth contributing. It is nice to have people like your ideas and work, and FANTASTIC to be able to use other peoples work. Do not give up, just contribute some of the stuff you currently use in class and go from there.
