Explain, please.

Hi, friends.
Could you explain the phrase "Don t turn a book upon its clear face".
Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a classic Google (mis) translation. What was the original language?

It s a poem by B. Walker.

Since books are friends,
They need much care.
When you re reading them,
Be good to them and fair.
Use book-marks
To hold your place,
And don t turn a book
Upon its clear face.

Remember, children, then:
Books are ment to read,
Not cut or colour them.
No, really never indeed!

It means that you shouldn t let the books paper touch another surface, such as when you turn an open book over on a table so that you don t lose you place. He wants you to use a bookmark and close the book instead, so that the pages don t get dirty I m guessing...

I agree with sulekra. The poet wants us to treat our books with care! ;))

He doesn t want you to turn the book face down. It ruins the spine of the book.
I remember my teachers always said to turn the pages on the top right corner and not "thumb" my through a book!

Here is a picture of an open book face down.

I m sorry, I can understand the relative importance of treating a book with due care and respect but who is B. Walker and what happened to the scansion?
