50 essential English words?
 
hi there, I �ve got a  17 yeAr-old pupil who doesn �t know a word about English. Next year he�ll have a picture to describe orally for his exam. Have you got any ideas where I could find a sort of list like the 50 essential English words you need to know to survive? thanks in advance for your help;

I am not sure that your student can pass an exam knowing only 50 words but take a look at these lists - at least something where you can start.

The words Baiba linkedyou to are basic reading words, the first 50 most common in children �s literature. http://esl.about.com/od/vocabularyreference/a/850_basics.htm These are the most common for conversing.
