what is the difference between:
 
He was banned from travelling .
 
and
 
He was forbidden from travelling.
 
and which is more correct?

  "he was banned from travelling" is the most appropriate.

banned = he drank too much in an airplane, assaulted an airhostess, so the judge banned him from travelling in airplanes.
forbidden = he has a serious heart condition so his doctor forbade him from travelling until he is better...

if i �m wrong please let me know ;-)

Two excellent answers, but one little problem remains. A person would be "forbidden to" travel, not "forbidden from" travelling.

that �s interesting, because I found both are correct: forbidden to do AND forbidden from doing... it is a difference btw Br. Eng. and Am. Eng.???
