Usually �on a chair � and �in an armchair �. Perhaps it depends how comforable you are and how much the chair wraps itself around you. |

Yes, as David said, it is determined by how much it is around you. Even though a couch/sofa has arms, they don �t really surround you, because at least one of them is far from you. Apodo �s list demonstrates this quite nicely.
I would say that "on" or "in" a beanbag are both fine. You sit on it at first, then you sink down into it, so you are in it.
