To say something that you shouldn �t have said because it was inappropiate.

I definitely agree with RukiaK; the idiom is: "put one �s foot in one �s mouth"

It is used when someone says something that is wrong or inappropriate in a situation.

e.g: I put my foot in my mouth and said: "Who �s that ugly dwarf?" when my friend was about to introduce me to his grandma.
