Help!!!

Hi Everyone,

Could you tell me the difference between "no matter who and whoever", please?

As far as I know the only difference is "whoever" can be used as the subject of the sentence but no matter can t be used.

Am I correct?

.................... misses the test will fail.

a- who    b- no matther who  c- whoever  d- anybody

the answer is C

Is it ok?

Thanks a lot

WHOEVER IS CORRECT.

YOU COULD SAY," no matter who misses the test he/she will fail"

no matter who refers to anyone in general regardless of their status/position etc, it could be anyone ( no exception)- it could also refer to people who are not supposed to take the tests ( basically anybody in the world)

Whoever, although it could refer to anyone, but it specifically refers to the students who are supposed to take the test, it does not refer to anyone else outside of the referred subject/s.

Sincerely,
Sirhajwan

Whoever is a subject pronoun and therefore correct

"No matter who misses the test will fail" is not correct  as it means "it doesnt matter who misses the test will fail" - their isnt a subject for the verb fail.
