Which sentence is correct?
 
Dear members,

Can you tell me which sentence is correct:

The students were late to the first class 
or 
The students were late for the first class ??

 it�s the second one " late for the first class"-

I think they are both OK.

I use both.  "To" implies, they might have been on time for all their others. dt

I see it as a personal preference matter. I use "for", but "to" is definitely correct.
