As a speaker of American English, I would call this a coat rack. I call this a coat hanger.

As a Brit, I would call it a hat stand although we use it for coats (don t ask why!). As for MoodyMoody s contribution, guess what? as usual, over the pond we would call the "coat rack" the "coat hanger." Of course, in daily life, when in doubt we just say, "the thing that you hang coats on." You ve opened up a can of worms there Benitto! Confused

Well down here at the bottom of the world it can be called many things:

coat rack    coat stand   hat rack   hat stand (though not many people wear hats these days)

As for the coat hanger, that s only for what MM describes.

Cheers

Jayho

We have one of these at our house and we call it a hat stand, but it also has extra hooks for coats. Ours also has scarves and even a small bag under those coats! I wear hats all the time (and I didn t bother to tidy it up before taking the photo) LOL.

I am from the midwest,  Iowa,  and we call it a clothes tree.   But I have heard  clothes rack but never hanger.

According to Walmart (a US company) it seems a "clothes tree" has a larger base (as in a seat) and "coat rack" seems to be the popular term.
