How can I make the lesson easy?

Hi,

There is a lesson in the student s book.  It s verb patterns.

It is about some verbs that are followed by an the infinitive or the -ing form. These verbs change the meaning depending on whether they are followed by an infinitive or -ing form, e.g. remember  ,  forget , stop , go on , and try.

Is there any rule to make the lesson easy that help them to understand the difference in meaning.
Some sentences are easy and some of them are difficult.

e.g.
a- she went on studying long after midnight.
b- After high school, she went on to study at university.

Thanks a lot.

An easy rule is for verbs that follow with gerund -ing (you have already done or experienced) and for verbs that follow with -infinitive -to form (you haven t yet done -future meaning with plans, decisions, wishes)

She remembered to lock the door.  (At the time of remembering she didn t lock the door yet)
She remembered locking the door. (At the time of remembering, she had locked the door)

Hope it helps!

Be careful though:

"Let s go swimming." uses the gerund but speaks of the future.
