Could you explain to me the difference between: a doctor s script and prescription? Thanks in advance. |

Hi They are pretty much the same thing. A doctor prescribes medicine for an illness. He/she does this by filling out a form, also called a prescription, or script, which the patient takes to the pharmacy. The pharmacist fills the prescription by providing the medicine that is prescribed. That s how it is done in Australia. Hope that helps. Cheers |

I answered this earlier, but my answer disappeared. "Script" is just an abbreviation of "prescription", so they are the same thing, but "prescription" is more formal. Bruce |

Just to add: In Canada, a prescription is otherwise referred to as a scrip . Script refers to writing style, a plan or a play. |

Well, I never knew that! Never heard that abbreviation in my life. If anyone mentioned the doctor s script to me, I would think they were referring to an actor in Casualty or Doctors. |

Bruce, I saw your post before. What happened to it?
Script must be American English. We use it all the time here, but we use a combination of American and British English. Its simply the short form for prescription. |

Jayho, you know better than to ask why something happens on the internet. You just move on. Bruce |
