stick

Dear Friends,

I found this sentence in a worksheet:

"I enjoy chips, pizza, candy and hot sausages, but my mom’s rule of eating a salad with every meal sticks."

Could you help me to understand the last word (and the second part of the sentence)?

Thank you for your help.

H.

To stick is literally "to adhere". A little figuratively, it means to remain (sometimes when we don t want it to).

...but my mom s rule of eating a salad with every meal has stayed with me over the years.
