If you were enquiring about the father or mother s occupation  individually you would use does but as you are enquiring about both, i.e. they you should use do .

It s a compound subject, so it is "do". You can substitute "they" for "your father and mother".

Hi, I can add,if you want to say: What does your father or mother do? this is right as you looked at each one individually but if you want to say: What do your father and mother do? Then you looked at them together(plural) then you must say do
