Here s a copy of a handout I gave students when I taught computer literacy. I didn t think it was worth posting to ESLP, but I hope it can help. There are probably newer sites out there as well, but this may be a place to get started.
Free Typing Lessons and Practice on the Internet
http://www.typingweb.com : Excellent typing program that can teach both adults and children. You need to set a user name and a password to save your progress, but there is no fee.
http://www.sense-lang.org/typing : This web site allows you to take typing tests in addition to typing lessons, animated lessons, and games. There is also an associated web site, Piece of English Cake, that may be good for ESOL students. However, the program looks like it is focused on children, not adults.
http://keybr.com : This looks like a good, no-nonsense keyboarding practice program. This is focused on adults. You can import your own work to practice. If you sign up for an account, the web site will keep a graph showing your progress. It is also usable for Spanish, French, and Portuguese typing practice (sorry, Arabic speakers!)
http://www.freetypinggame.net : The user interface looks kind of old, but this program has lessons, games, and tests. Some of the print is kind of small, so it might be difficult for older students to read.
http://typingclub.com/typing-qwerty-en.html : This program has a series of 100 lessons to practice typing and increase your speed. Many of the lessons focus on two keys to practice and others on words per minute. Start an account if you want to save your progress.
