What do these sentences mean?

Hi,

Can you tell me what this sentences mean:

1- Stupidity doesnt pay and neither does stress.

2- Instead of trying to understand the new situation and behave in an appropriate way, the man continued to behave as before, out of habit.

Thank you.

1. We commonly hear Crime doesn t pay  http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/Crime+doesn t+pay

If something doesn t pay it means you can t achieve anything by doing it. There will be no good outcome.

2. I think you need an example to explain this. (Sorry I cant think of a better example)
A man waters his flower garden every day. There is a drought. The man continues to water his flowers out of habit, not thinking about the drought, or understanding what it means. The result could be that he ends up with no drinking water.
