positive and negative adjectives

Hi dear colleagues !
Is the adjective "shy"  negative or positive  ?
Some teachers say : This person is intelligent but shy  .
Others say : He is intelligent and shy .
In the first example it is a negative adjective and in the second one it is a positive one .
                         Thanks a lot

I would say that shy is, overall, slightly negative. Most people prefer friendly, outgoing people. It can be used positively, though. Shyness and intelligence aren t correlated, so either conjunction is okay.
