dear colleagues, is the word hero refers to both man and woman or just to man. i mean by hero an ideal person that we should follow thanks in advance

Although the word heroine exists, its use is decline, in my opinion.The forum at wordreference.com bears this out. http://forum.wordreference.com/threads/hero-vs-heroine.2267770/ , as does http://grammarist.com/usage/heroin-heroine/

You could use "role model" as a gender-neutral alternative in this context.

Heroine is really quite old fashioned now.
 
Most people in my country would just use hero nowadays, but everyone understands the use of heroine.
 
When teaching heroine to our students, it�s important to remember to put the e at the end, otherwise the meaning totally changes. Teaching hero is a safe and commonly used option :-)
