a poem about the future for middle schoolers

 Hello fellow members,
I am looking for monolgues for my 12-year-old students about the future. I think it would be a good idea to use the lyrics of the song or the words of a poem as the script of the monologues. I couldn t find a suitable future monologue on the web  and I would very much appreciate your help if you have any suggestions.
                                                                                                                    Thanks a lot

What will I become when I am older ?
What will I be ?
What will I see or hear ?
Will I meet only robots instead of men ?
Who am I going to meet then ?
Who will I speak to ?
Will animals still exist ?
What kind of job am I going to do ?
What about science and technology ?
Where am I going to live ? On Earth or somewhere in space ?
Why are men rushing so fast into black holes ?
What are they scared by ?
Why don t they stop running and try to think of a calm future ?
Will the word serenity still be in dictionaries ?
Please ! Tell me about my future !
Not through a Crystal Ball ! No !
Tell me through wisdom and clever reflection...
Who can I ask about my future ?
Who can i ask about the human kind s future ?
Who can I ask about my Earth s future ?
Oh dear Wise Men, please, tell me...
Tell me who I am going to be !
Will I respect my planet ?
Will I travel through the stars to new planets ?
Will I only still be allowed to live ?
How will be the air I breathe ?
How will be the water I drink ?
Will I live long enough to see my future ?
Oh ! Dear Wise Men where are you hiding ?
I know one thing yet : I must never stop hoping in a future I am going to help building !
Let s start listening to my heart, to my soul...
Let s start believing in a possible better future !
Let s start to live in a wiser way !
Mother Nature will be grateful,
And I will be able to look at Me through her loving eyes !

Maybe this poem I have just written might suit what you are looking for ?

I recommend a wonderful text by Dr. Seuss titled: ‘Oh, The Places You ll Go’! It can be easily found on the Net.

I read a part of it for my students at the end of the school year. They were very emotional about it.

Here is a sample:

Dr. Seuss – ‘Oh, The Places You ll Go’!

Congratulations!

Today is your day.

You re off to Great Places!

You re off and away!

You have brains in your head.

You have feet in your shoes.

You can steer yourself any direction you choose.

You re on your own. And you know what you know.

And YOU are the one who ll decide where to go.

All the very best.

Hello,

I use this poem about robots. I don´t know the author, though.

Robots

In the year twenty thirty-two,

All the things robots will do.

They will wash your clothes

And brush your hair,

They will tidy your room

When you re not there.

They will wash the dishes

And open the door,

They will cook dinner

And sweep the floor.

They ll sew,

They ll iron,

They ll tidy,

They ll knit.

And no more homework,

Your personal robot will do it!
