I made a test and then I made an exercise about pronouns. Now I have a doubt about the answer:

Observe:
Complete the following exercise with the correct pronoun:
A) Alfred and Henry are in ............................... car.
a. our
b. its
c. their
d. mine
e. my
The correct answer is c but can I accept the letter e as correct. I don t know.

Not a very good exercise. Who says you cannot sit in another person s car? we do that sometimes, don t we?

Considering that, a, c and e could be correct.

Minka is correct. a, c and e are all correct and reasonable answers.

True, but the logical one is c. A little bit of common sense needs to be applied.Smile
Bruce is in .............. car
a) my
b) his
c) their
d) the monster from Mars s

The answer is.... b, although I wish it was a!  Wink

Your exercise is fine!

I admire those who give designing their own tasks a go.  We all make mistakes and thats how we learn, so well done!

c is the logical answer but a and e are also correct so you could perhaps change your question to:

Circle the (3) correct pronouns that can be used in this sentence

A) Alfred and Henry are in ............................... car.
a. our
b. its
c. their
d. mine
e. my

Cheers

Maybe you should specify in the instructions that the subject is always also the owner of the object mentioned in the text.
Or change the exercise as following:

Replace the underlined words with the appropriate possessive adjective :

Alfred and Henry are sitting in Alfred and Henry s car.

You can either provide different options to choose from or not, your choice.

Bye the way, many exercises are made as your original one,  but I really don t think that is a very good way to check the knowledge of use of possessives.

Hi,
I agree with Minka.
You should specify better the  instructions.
Sometimes, I underlined words about the correct pronouns in the activities,
