Hello all fellow teachers & users of this great site,
I need your help please. I ve been preparing a student who wants to join the Army and will have to sit a test under the STANAG6001 parameters
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standardization_Agreement
A key part of this exam consists of a number of short paragraphs (4-6 lines), level B1-B2, and a comprehension question with a multiple choice answer. Here is an example:
English is the language of global business. if you speak English, you are bound to find someone you can communicate with, almost anywhere you go. If this is so, why then should English native speakers try to learn foreign languages? Is it that they really need to? Apparently not. Well, it seems there are some practical reasons for doing so. First off, research suggests that learning a foreign language actually makes your brain work in a more efficient way, or at least makes you perform better in most tests.
What the text is saying, in short, is that
a) language learning is always useful.
b) language learning is not always useful.
c) few English people study other languages.
d) it s fashionable to learn languages
I m finding it hard to collect enough texts that meet the requirementes. Can you help? I would really appreciate that.
Thanks,
