Same Sound Seven Spellings?!
This is an awareness raising activity about the crazy English spelling system. In groups of four, students take turns to dictate their list of seven words (each list contains a common vowel phoneme) to the other three group members. Make sure no-one´s looking at their groupmates´ sheets, they can ask the ´dictator´ to spell words out if necessary.
When all 28 words have been dictated, group members put their sheets together to check spelling and work out what the common vowel sound is for each set of words.
It´s actually a lot more fun than it sounds! My students found it useful. Try it!
