The PQ3R Study Technique / Operating System
The PQ3R Study technique applied in small texts in the classroom for practicing. Teachers can teach this important study technique in class by working with small texts of varied topics: computing, business, banking...
Directions:
Step 1. PREVIEW: (students look up in the dictionary the bold type keywords in the text and write their meaning in the left column, 10 minutes).
Step 2. QUESTION: (Students write 4 or 5 questions related to the reading on the right column, 10 minutes).
Step 3 and 4. READ AND RECITE: (Students read first and then recite the whole text to:
a. find the main ideas and secondary ideas of each paragraph
and write them in the columns below, rest of time).
b. answer the True/False exercises.
c. answer the questions about the reading.
d. translate the summary into his own language. (The summary
will be made by rewriting the main ideas).
