Lesson Plan Based on Direct Method (DM) Lesson Plan Based on Direct Method (DM)

This method was mainly devised as a reaction to the grammar-translation method in an attempt to integrate more use of the target language, especially listening and speaking skills, in instruction. The lesson begins with a dialogue using the target language (L2). Material is first presented orally with actions or pictures. L1 (mother tongue) is never used. Exercise should be a series of questions based on the dialogue or an anecdotal narrative, and questions are to be answered in the target language.
