Little Flap Learns To Fly
I dont know how many teachers/schools use the McGraw-Hill Wonders Series but I thought I would submit these supplemental materials (which can stand on their own). I like turning the Wonders stories into dialogues to give students a flavor of real conversation. I change some words and add slang and other expressions. This story is from Book G2-U1. ...

Pair Activity for Teaching Expressions
I cut the expression into two parts and randomly distribute the parts to my class and send them to the hall to find their partner. When they think they found their partner, they come back and I check to make sure. Once partnered, students figure out what the expression means and then prepare a dialogue using the expression. This activity is great f...

Beginning Reports Using Cloze: Countries
I teach English to a small group of Chinese early elementary students. Scoring Rubric for Short Notes
College students in China are tested on writing short notes. Ive developed a scoring rubric I can use to easily mark their practice notes. I have them email me the note in "correct" form. I copy and paste my rubric in my return email to them. I just put xs next to the error description and mark the errors with highlights and email the whole thing...

COVID-19 Dialogue
I love to make dialogues for my students so they can practice conversational English. I use the text as a basis for the script and have students alternate. Since my classes are very small, this works well. In a large class, I would divide the students into groups and have them do the dialogues.

Waltzing Matilda Explained
This famous ballad from Australia is its informal national anthem. Just to listen to it, one wouldnt realize it is about a migrant who steals a sheep and is caught. Rather than be hanged, he drowns himself. The lyrics are from the Slim Dusty version that was sung by him at the Melbourne Olympics.
