*** ODD ONE OUT I ***
Students find the odd word out in a group of five and then have to explain on an abstract level why it doesnt fit (not a farm animal, not a continent, the only plural word, not part of the leg, no means of transport etc). The real difficulty is NOT finding the odd one out but explaining why it was chosen. Two pages plus key.

Terrific Spelling Game
A terrific game that I use very often. The kids choose a category and earn points, depending on the difficulty of the word they have to spell. Large classes can play as teams. Give them all scrap paper so they can each try spelling the word.
