Open and Closed syllables - Guard Dog
Here is a great PowerPoint presentation to help students understand the difference between an open and closed syllable.
Did you know in an open syllable word the vowel says its name?
But when a consonant comes and sits next to it, its closed in and can no longer say its name; only its sound.
Its like the consonant is a scary guard dog, and the vowel is so scared of the consonant it can only make a squeak, its sound.
This product is MSL (Multisensory Structured Literacy) & Orton Gillingham inspired.
