Twenty-five Words for "Said"
This is a simple list of 25 alternative words to use instead of "said"; each word connotes "said" + "something more", e.g. whispered, murmured, cried, cheered, explained, sighed. Many of these words appear in the picture book, "Stellaluna" by Jannell Cannon. It is a great teaching tool and resource for students who are writing creative stories or language experience stories because they often overuse "said" due to a limited vocabulary.
