English worksheet: Past perfect historical fact game Past perfect historical fact game

This historical fact game has been designed in order to allow students to practice using the past perfect tense. The game consists of a dial with dates from the 20th century and historical fact cards. In small groups the students would take it in turn to take a fact card and spin the arrow on the dial. The student would then produce sentences in the following form: “By 1970 the 1st man had been to the moon.” OR “By 1910 the 1st man hadn’t been to the moon.” Other students would check that the sentence formed was correct: both grammatically and historically (the correct date that particular events occurred can be checked with the date printed on the reverse of the card). Students receive a point if they form the sentence correctly.
