Where did you go this summer vacation? - Interview Speaking activity using simple past tense. Expressing feelings/emotions
I did this activity recently with some 1st year High School Japanese students and the results were very positive. They had to interview four friends about their summer vacation using simple past tense. The students also had to tell their feelings about their summer vacation (ex. It was exciting/very nice/interesting/boring/etc.).
One of the main problems with teaching English in Japan is that lessons usually concentrate soley on grammer and writing while very little speaking and conversation is done. As a result, many Japanese students are unable to communicate in English, despite years and years of intensive English studies.
Therefore I always try to make activities which focus on conversation/speaking. I hope others find these activities helpful (this is a great website, but I would like to see more speaking/conversational activities on here...most handouts on this website seem grammar/writing oriented).
