I often find great difficulty, while using a basic course for adults, to find reading passages which bring many essential vocabulary the class have learnt into use in new contexts. My teaching experience as a non esl teacher taught me this is essential when teaching reading and the satisfaction of being to get through a little book or long reading passage without difficulty is essential for the children´s sense of achievement - and this is as essential for adults as well. This is one of the stories I wrote to fill this gap. Exercises can be add if this is also a long holiday homework project.
