I call them mini tests. I do one at the end of each unit to check vocabulary and grammar. Good pupils do it quickly and not so good ones can do some things right! To save paper, the test is printed twice (front and back) and then cut in half. When cutting be careful not to cut the exercises!(It happened to me at first!)
