Designer Babies: Debate with Sisterīs Keeper and Gattaca movies
So this is a worksheet about the taboo issue of designer babies, that is, manipulating genes of an unborn baby. The objective is mainly to foster debate and conversation among students. The worksheet includes an article and segments from "My Sisterīs Keeper" (2009) and "Gattaca" movies. (I included the minutes for you to find the correct segments)
I took the article and adapted some tasks from the book "Taboos and Issues" (unit "Designer Babies"), then I added some other tasks as well.
If the students like the segments, then you could watch the full movies to go deeper into the topic thereīs plenty of material in them to discuss ethical points, technology, love, family and so on. Great movies both of them!
**Please note that the issue to discuss is very sesitive so be careful what kind of students you are going to expose to, some may become offended**
