This dual exercise focuses on phrasal verbs and listening in Michael Bublé’s popular song. Have the students do the matching exercise first, then hand out the gapped lyrics and have them try to find words that fit in the gaps. (Many of the missing words are from the matching exercise.) Finally play the song so they can check their choices and fill in the blanks they were unable to find words for.
I followed this up by displaying photographs around the room. Then ask each student (or pair of students) to make up a story based on the photograph (it could be what happened before or after the picture was taken) using 1 or more expressions from the matching exercise.
Another follow-up is to have the students work in pairs to suggest ways that Michael Bublé could meet the girl of his life, using expressions like "He should," "He ought to," "Why doesn’t he ...?", etc.
