Word stress (intonation) worksheet
Now that your students know their vocabulary and grammar, itīs time to give them something REALLY interesting and fun!
Word stress is a tough and slippery subject to teach, but you can have a lot of fun with it, as both teachers and students try to emphasize the right syllables in each word.
Working from the top left word (Korean), students must draw a path - going right or down only, NOT diagonally - to the bottom right (computer), using only words which have the same stress. (E.G., "koREan", "comPUter")
Answer key: Korean => remember => museum => imagine => together => tomorrow => banana => Saturday => computer
Then, students can draw a diagram of the syllable stress for each word in the grey boxes below:
Small circle = weak
Big circle = strong.
Thus, "KoREan" = small, big, small
