Witches Brew a Halloween Legend literary language, original version
This is a fun anonymous Halloween poem, which I have performed, and the children loved.
http://www.georgiamedia.net/pipermail/members/2008-October/000241.html has the recipe with instructions on how to perform the making of the brew in a glass bowl on the overhead projector.
The teacher adds food coloring for blood and bile and venom, lentils for eyes, string for a snake, and alkaselzer makes the brew "boil". Add bleach to magically turn the colored brew clear.
Can be a springboard to science because of the chemical reactions, an ice-breaker for the Halloween party, or an introduction to the mechanics of rhyme in poetry.
