SO SORRY FOR ALL THE WOMEN SUFFERIN IN THIS WORLS          posted by Olindalima ( F ) 0
Hi, my fellow
I am an English teacher and I work in Portugal. First I thought to write you in private, then I decided to post my comment in the forum. For me, this is a very serious problem
I wouldn t like to arise a lot of comments in the forum, but, even so,just to say that your worksheet about burqqas didn t fit me, anyway; sorry, i don t want to be rude to you, just talking about different social environments... I don t know where you are from, I can t recognize your flag, ( my fault, I have never been good with flags ), but in my country, Portugal, we do suffer a lot, because so many women have to use a burqqa, they can t get out or stay among male friends without hiding their faces. This is rather difficult for us to understand, may be you have very important and reasonable reasons for that, but, for us, in the western countries, where a woman always fights for their rights, this is something which we can t understand...
So, I didn t like your worksheet, because I try my best to fight against violations, and the compulsory use of a burqqa is something I consider a woman s right violation.
May be some of you use them in your country, may be you are talking about other s country traditions, never mind, for me, this is the kind of subject, should never be handled with the word " funny"
Sorry, forgive me, i didn t mean to be rude, just call everyone s attention, cause so many women have their basic rights cut, and we can t make a joke of that.
hugs,
from me to you

Hi Olinda Lima :)

Let me explain something to you as you are talking about something related to my country (The United Arab Emirates). Actually, the one who posted this PowerPoint is my friend so I allow myself to reply instead of her!
Most females in our country cover their faces because they do want to do that and not because they are being forced to do that!

Some women in our country and other Arab and Islamic countries believe that covering their faces will make them more protected.

Actually, I don t know what is your definition of a "woman s right" because I think that you mean that women should not be forced to do something they don t want to do, but this is not the case here, at least in the UAE, because most women here are not forced to cover their faces.

We have different beliefs and we have been raised in different cultures. Hence, there is something that you might see "inappropriate" while I will see it perfectly fine and vice versa. For example, for me to see some pictures in some of the worksheets in this site about a man and a woman kissing, I find it really "inappropriate". However, you may think it is fine!
Well, I wonder why don t you raise the "woman s right issue when women wear unprudish clothes and go out with men, but when a woman decides to wear prudish clothes and cover her face, then you talk about women s right!!

Well, I also think that the word "funny" shouldn t be used in this topic because there is nothing funny about it!

Finally, we are different and we have different opinions and thoughts about different issues, so we should accept our differences in order to live in harmony together.

Kind regards :)

Hi, Amna
I m happy you have just answered me; at least it means you didn t get me wrong.
Well, when I refer to women s right, I mean that a woman, better, every human being, should have the right to behave the way he/she thinks correct; being forced to do things the other way round, differently from what we want and think is correct, is, for me a kind of violation; it can be bigger or smaller, but it is a short of individual freedom. When you refer " women wear unprudish clothes and go out with men ", the difference I see is that anyone can behave the way he/she likes and thinks is correct; those kind of situations are free, they are not imposed, women go out with men, friends, other women, but they go, because they want to go, they are not forced;it is not because one of us thinks something is incorrect that it begins to be incorrect. Each one of us should have the right to do things the way we find appropriate.
My only problem is that I don t tolerate that people being forced to live lives others consider good or decent should be talked as funny.
Hope you don t get me wrong, I respect you and your feelings and culture... and traditions; the only point is that it seemed to me you were making a kind of joke with something I consider a great human value.
Friends ?
Hugs

its an urban tale!!          posted by Azza_20 0
Amna, thank you for clarifying this to Olindalima!
i was going to comment on her post, although this is not my contribution but i come from this culture and i feel that its my right to pin point and clarify this issue to those who find our practices weird and take away women rights.

Olinda, am sorry but you went too far with ur interpretation of the use of burqas by women and u’re just assuming things! women in the muslim world and in particular the United Arab Emirates have the RIGHT to wear whatever they want including burqa s because this “accessory” is part of the culture here. If you ever visit the UAE you will find people wearing revealing clothes as much as people who cover up. Besides, the power point is a “funny urban tale” which has been retold for generations that’s why the author referred to it as a “funny story” and i think this contribution was intended for open minded people who are interested in learning about other cultures. So I suggest that you educate yourself and read more about this if you really want to know the facts.
I am so shocked about how shallow some people can be!! Guys we are teachers and sometimes we have to deal with subjects and issues that we don’t feel very comfortable with or feel strongly about! I am not a Christian but when I was training in some catholic school I abided by the school rules and didn’t discuss religion, actually I attended bible classes with the students and respected their culture and when I see contribution about Christmas, Easter and Hanukkah that I really realllyyyyyyyy like I post a nice comment although I wouldn’t necessary use the worksheet!!
