Present perfect v. Past simple
This is a powerpoint that I usually use for introducing the difference between past simple and past perfect. It is fully animated, please play it through before you use it, following the instructions below:
Slide One - 1. reveal the +, -, ? - ask the students to identify the structure.
2. reveal the first time line, and ask how many times she has seen the film.
3. Draw attention to the apostrophe S and reveal the question. Confirm that it is She has.
4. Reveal the second time line. Ask if it is correct. Hopefully students will realise there shouldn´t be a star, which will drop away.
5. Talk students through the animation for the question.
Slide 2 - Illustrates the difference between PP and PS. Show the students the sentence pairs, have them identify the incorrect sentence (and why).
Slide 3 - Lead students through the questions on slide 3
Slide 4 - is just mini-model conversation.
Hope it is useful! Enjoy!
