I play a game called Name 7 with older primary school children to revise groups of vocabulary they have already learnt. We play the game orally and for fun initially and then they are given a week to prepare for the written test. When scoring the test I give them 1 point for each answer that indicates that they know the word orally and a second point if they get the spelling right. This is a soft introduction to the need to learn vocabulary "off by heart". You could change the category titles to suit. I chose 7 because it matches days of the week and personal pronouns well.
