COUNTRIES AND NATIONALITIES CARD GAME
Aim: to practice saying contries and nationalities
Type of activity: Game
Number of students: 2-4
Level: Begginer
Instructions:
The objective is for the students to make 3 groups of 3 cards with matching noun-country-nationality. It’s inspired on a card game I played with my grandfather. He used to call it Cacheta.
Print and cut up all the cards. If possible, stick them to colored cardboard, so that students cannot see through them. Shuffle them. Give out 9 cards to each student. Leave the remaining cards on a pile, face down on the table.
At their turn, each st analyzes the cards in their hand to see if they can make pairs or trios. Take 1 card from the pile and discard 1. They can also fish cards from the discard pile, but always discard one. When a student believes he/she has made three trios, at his/her turn, they can show them and make sentences, like this:
New York is in the USA. It’s an American city.
Beethoven was from Germany. He was German.
That student will be the winner and another round may start.
