This worksheet is part of an activity. The original idea is from scavengerhuntsforkids.com. This worksheet, and the use of the rhyming clues idea for a colours class is mine though. I printed 3 worksheets and cut them up into 8 strips each. i assigned a score to each strip (so for instance, the strip with blue is difficult so solving it earns you 3 moves - on the back of the blue strip is written ´3 moves´). On the blackboard i drew 3 boardgame type grids (one for each team). the number of blocks on the board game should obviously equal the total number of moves on the 8 strips. the pile of strips is placed face down on each teams desk and then students choose strips randomly, solve them, and then move their board piece (a cool magnet perhaps) along their grid according to the number of moves assigned to that strip (3 moves for blue strip). First team to get to the end of the grid wins. the kids loved this and making it a competitive game rather than a worksheet adds to the fun! the idea is to explain that it is a listening and looking exercise (the answer SOUNDS like the colour - WHO sounds like BLUE - and yet LOOKS different i.e. has different letters). have fun and merry christmas!
