Comparing Romeo & Juliet Remakes
The balcony scene from “Romeo and Juliet” is one of the most famous in all English literature. About 2 dozen film versions of this novel have been made (the earliest back in 1911!). Show the class 2 or 3 versions of the balcony scene (many are available on YouTube), and have the students take notes. They then discuss their perceptions in groups of 3. The idea of a discussion exercise using different film versions of the same scene comes from the excellent O.U.P. book, "Film." Works very nicely!
