Listening: BBC Blue Planet - Oceans and Sea life
This is a worksheet on the beautifully filmed and clearly narrated Blue Planet series. This is for just a 10 minute section of the start of the episode "Tidal Seas". For those who have the DVD box set, this is disc 2. I highly recommend this series!
LESSON PLAN: I have successfully used this with various levels of students (pre-int+). First I allow them to listen to the entire 10 mins with the objective of writing down as many words they hear as possible. This gives them a positive focus and means they acknowledge how much they understand rather than what they miss!
Then I use the first page of exercises to get the students to recognise known words and their synonyms which appear in the clip.
Then I play the 10 minutes of film again, with or without subtitles, depending on the level of the student, with some pauses to check understanding.
I hope this is useful to you!
p.s. there is a small section on the first page with some italian words, which you can just delete or replace with the vocabulary from your local language. I found this helpful to encourage the students with the wide range of new vocabulary introduced.
