Directions- running dictation
Another work sheet to accompany my sheet ´Directions Pair Work Gap Fill´, to be done in the next lesson.
This time I plan to use this as a running dictation. If you don´t know what a running dictation is you are missing out on the BEST activity ever for ESL classes for ALL ages.
I start by putting the written directions outside the classroom (or in your case perhaps at one end of the classroom depending on space)
Then, Student A will leave their seat and go to read the directions, usually a couple of words at a time, then come back to their partner and speak. Student A must keep their hands behind their back and not point, but only use words.
Student B will then write down the directions. Student A can go back as many times as they like. In fact trying to say less words each time will be more accurate.
At the end, Student A sits down and together they will read the directions and then mark the 4 locations on the map. First team to have everything written down and the 4 spots marked correctly will be the winner. Very competitive and use of reading, speaking listening, writing & of course directions vocabulary.
