Can and Canīt: Hearing the difference
This is to help students hear the difference between "can" and "canīt" in American speech, where the "t" is not usually pronounced clearly.
I start with a quick lecture on listening for the stress (and therefore vowel) difference between can and canīt most of the time, and listening to the "n" sound -- how quickly it gets cut off.
Then I read sentences from the answer key, while students fill in the blanks.
