Pictionary (Present Progressive)
My low level ESL high school students really get into this game whenever we play it for the present progressive lesson. Print, cut and laminate the cards.
Put students into groups of 4-5 players. Each team should have some paper and a pen to draw with, or a small whiteboard and a marker. Assign a team name or get the students to give themselves a team name. Write down the group names on the board so you can keep tally of the score. Get the students to decide the order of who will draw first, second, third, and so on. Get one person from each team to come up to you and show them the card with the sentence (if they have problems reading like my SS do, I get the students to come outside the classroom with me where I can help them read out the sentence). Students to go back to their group and draw the picture to their teammates without speaking or gesturing (or writing words!). Once the teammates get the sentence right, they are to raise their head and you go up to them and they whisper the answer to you. First team to say the sentence correctly gets the most points. For example, if there are 4 groups playing, first group to finish get 4 points, second to finish get 3 points, third to finish get 2 points and last to finish get 1 point. That way each team stays motivated to try and answer.
