Battleship for Pronunciation Problems
Pronunciation can be difficult to teach to a mixed class and difficult to keep fun in general. This Battleship printout is simple to use and lets you drill the most common pronunciation problems.
The game is played just like a normal game of Battleship - where players mark their boats on their grid and their opponents try to sink them by guessing the correct grid reference - but instead of guessing A1 or B5 they use the corresponding words to guess the grid locations (EG: A1 becomes Lived Rackand B2 is Livid Lack, helping to practice past simple regular verb endings and with the tricky L/R sounds).
The game can be played at any level intermediate or above. I find marking fifteen boats on the grid (five that take up five spaces, five that take three, and five that take one) works best. It can last up to an hour but after half an hour it might start to drag. This game is played in pairs so you can divide the class and once they know the rules they will take care of themselves, leaving you to monitor and correct different pairs throughout the activity.
